Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

janrudd@therapyemail.com

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Kentucky. I am also working towards my Play Therapy Certification. I am available in-person and online, although I prefer working in-person. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults.

I grew up in Ohio, and after receiving my undergraduate degree at Miami University of Ohio, I moved to Florida. I attended Stetson University in DeLand, Florida for my graduate studies, receiving a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. While there, I specialized in working with children ages 3 to 17. My chosen program also included an emphasis on LGBTQ+ studies. I moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2016 for a job at Seven Counties where I worked in elementary schools as a child therapist. I decided in 2021 to enter the world of private practice, allowing me to work with people of various ages, including individual adults.

My passion lies with helping children and helping the people who are raising them. Utilizing Play Therapy and Expressive techniques, I believe in letting your child be who they need to be so they can heal from anxiety, depression, or trauma. I will create the safe space they need to feel loved and accepted. I often work with parents alongside their children so they can journey with us and learn helpful parenting techniques. My hope is parents will see their children for the unique, wonderful people they are.

I also work with adults in their 20s & 30s, which is usually a time when we’re figuring out who we are or who we want to be. Maybe you haven’t gotten what or where you’d hoped, and you are ready to figure out what’s holding you back. Maybe you’ve accomplished what you set out to do, and don’t know why you still feel unhappy and unfulfilled. Maybe you just need a guide as you navigate through life’s transitions and the relationships you have along with way. If you are the creative type, I love to incorporate all types of art and creative techniques to help you express some of those more difficult topics and emotions.

In my personal time, I enjoy going on adventures with my husband and visiting our families around the country. I love experiencing nature and the outdoors, especially when it’s cool outside. My two cats get most of my attention when I’m home, as they are my fur-babies. My life has taken me on many different paths, allowing me to learn, grow and have a better understanding how we all relate to each other. My hope is to use everything I learn and experience to help others find compassion and empathy for others and for themselves.
